Hi Everyone,
Joe came home yesterday after the scare with an infection. We
spent 6 nights in the hospital including 3 nights in the
Intensive Care Unit because Joe's blood pressure and heart rate
were a little unstable for a while. It was nice though because a
lot of the staff from the eighth floor came down to see him and
I think "Dr." Mike was in the ICU more than he was on the eighth
floor.
The infection was
caused by a bacteria called Pseudomonas which I understand is
pretty common and not too harmful unless you have a suppressed
immune system like Joe does for a time after each chemotherapy
treatment. He is going to get 14 days of antibiotics and then
resume the chemotherapy so it looks like the treatment schedule
will be pushed back a week. Quite frankly I think we are all
ready (especially Joe) for a little break after spending 11 out
of 13 nights in the hospital.
